Think black sand beach, snorkeling, swimming and a day of relaxation while the sun goes down. Richardson Ocean Park has a beautiful, albeit small black beach with calm waters and great sea life for snorkeling. This beach is also frequented by the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles. You can watch their heads pop up for air or feed along the rocks. Sometimes even the dolphins will make a showing.
The area also offers green grassy areas and fresh water pools that you can snorkel or splash around in. Part of the attraction of the fish is that the ponds are fed by a fresh water spring that is cold and meet up with the warm water of the ocean. It’s also very shallow and free from harsh waves so the conditions for the fish are ideal.
Look for Green Sand!
If you scoop up some of the black sand in your hand you will also see what appears to be green sand. The green you see is olivine crystals which are even more present at Green Sand Beach (which is much more difficult to access). So this is a great place
