The Kona Side is a more tourist side as it has the attraction of the sandy beaches.  Therefore along the coast there is a large selection of resorts, hotels and places to stay.  Here are some of the featured places to stay in Kona and along the coast.

Resorts on the Kona Coast:

Royal Kona Resort

The Royal Kona Resort is a landmark building right on the Kailua Bay Ocean Front.   The Kona downtown nightlife is a very short walking distance, the pier to swim in the ocean is about a mile and classic beach-side dining is everywhere. If you want to be in the heart of the action but still a bit on the side for the quiet, the Royal Kona Resort is a nice option.

Amenities include a private beach, a saltwater lagoon, an oceanfront outdoor pool, a spa, fitness center and 4 tennis courts. Also there is nightly a luau right on the grounds of the resort (which is a blessing but also be loud for the 2 hour show).   Parking is free.

Sheraton Keauhau Bay Resort

The Sheraton Keauhau Bay resort is located on the south side of Kona. They are most known locally for the Manta Ray drive (snorkel or dive) where the giant Manta Rays frequent. Additionally they have a invigorating spa, an entertaining luau, and multi-level fantasy pool.   On Wednesdays guests and locals can shop the Ho’oulu farmers market that is hosted on their lawn. Their location also happens to retain the boast of the playground of the kings.

Hotels on the Kona Coast

Holiday Inn and Suites

This is a fairly new hotel and within walking distance from the shoreline and nightlife. It comes with your typical Holiday Inn Express amenities of a gym and a pool.   So far it has received good ratings.

Uncle Billy

Located right in the middle of nightlife action, this hotel is an older one and is considered budget lodging. It literally is steps away from shopping and only several hundred yards away from the shore. It’s about a two star hotel.   Not sure I would recommend it.  Nice website though.

Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel

This is a nicer hotel in Kona and you walk out the door and you are on the beach. Also this area is rich with history nestled right on the pier.   Downtown Kona is within walking distance and so is the dining, shopping, etc… If you’re looking for a nicer hotel this one would be a better option.
