Kamuela Inn—Bed and Breakfast

This is a small, cozy 30 room inn located in the middle of Parker Ranch, the largest privately-owned working cattle ranch in America. It’s also situated right at the base of Mauna Kea.   It is set off the road so there ia sense of quiet and privacy. It’s a nice place to stay in an area where hotels are few.

Jacaranda Inn

This is more upscale lodging set on a plantation-style historic ranch. The room accommodations are contemporary to New England style that are accompanied with a personal lanai, canopy beds, and whirlpool or soaking tubs. Like several places internet is a challenge and in this lodge, phone and dial-up internet are available in the main house only.   Nor will you find microwaves, fridges, etc… Yet in all this it is considered a hidden gem.

Resorts in Waimea Coastal Area

The Waimea Coast has the top resorts on the island.  These resorts can range from $200/night up to $1500/night and more.  They are truly all-in-one luxury accomodations.  They all have beach side access, several types of swimming pools, tennis courts, golf courses, spas and the like.  You could make your entire Hawaiian vacation in one of these resorts without ever leaving.

Waikaloa Hilton

This is perhaps the most well-known on the island.  They have taken an empty patch of dry lava, poured multi-million dollars of development and have turned it into a world class resort.  The grounds, restaurants and shops are all open to the public although the swimming facilities are not.   This is a family friendly resort and has something to offer for both children and adults.  The facilities are so large that a boat takes you from place to place.  A featured attraction is their Dolphin Quest which anyone can watch and paying participants can swim with the dolphins.
